10 tails
This sound sculpture is part of my (Terence Jay) ongoing hands-on study of the Sonambient work pioneered by Harry Bertoia and continued by his son, Val Bertoia.
Each piece is built as an exploration of resonance, movement, and interaction-starting from close observation and evolving through direct experimentation with material and sound.
10 tails
Material: Stainless and Hot Rolled Steel
Overall Height: 40”
Footprint: 12” circular base
Each sculpture includes a resonation box stand (the pedestal shown in videos is not included). The resonation box enhances the lower frequencies of the instrument and is recommended for optimal sound.
The base is made from unfinished hot rolled steel and is designed to naturally develop a rusted patina over time. This makes the sculpture well-suited for outdoor environments. If displayed indoors, it is recommended to keep the piece on its wood base, as the natural rusting process may leave marks on surfaces beneath it.
A very limited number of pieces from this study are being made available. Each sculpture represents a moment within an evolving process of learning and discovery.
In recognition of the Bertoia legacy, a royalty from each sale will be paid to the Harry Bertoia Foundation.
